Chapter two begins the idea of self image and how you reflect upon yourself. I enjoyed this chapter and it taught me a couple concepts. Ben Newman had a rough childhood when his mother passed away. From that moment until college he did not have a good self image of himself. After he graduated college at Michigan State University he came up with the thirty second self image. He would take thirty seconds everyday and visualize who he wanted to be and how he wanted his life to turn around. When I look at my life and my goals I want my outcome in life to reflect of my own goals. I have a vision of how I want my life to happen, I want to graduate college with a good gpa, win some NCAA titles, have a wife and kids that I love, and be great wrestling coach. Right now my self image is not what I want it to be. I have struggled in school, and I’m not where I want to be in wrestling. Newman says “If you tell yourself I can’t do this work, then its unlikely that your self image will include a vision of your self as the big boss”. I do not want to hold onto the negatives and will strive for the greater things in life as well as a better self image of my self.
Image- An image is an artifact that depicts visual perception, such as a photograph or other two dimensional picture, that resembles a subject usually a physical object and thus provides a depiction of it.
Vision- The faculty or state of being able to see, the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.
Performance- An act of staging or presenting a play, concert, or other form of entertainment. The action or process of carrying out or accomplishing an action, task, or function.
Visualization- The representation of an object, situation, or set of information as a chart or other image.
Communication- The imparting or exchanging of information or news, means of sending or receiving information such as telephone lines or computers.
At the end of the chapter it asks to take some time and reflect on how your mental video would be like and how you want to live the rest of your life. Like the first part says I will need to set a reminder to take thirty seconds and reflect on how I want to live my life from here on out. I want to live the rest of my life like it was already planned out from the start. I want to live a life where I know that I can still accomplish my goals and be happy with the way that I attainted them. I have been told to visualize before in wrestling as well as other things, so needless to say I know how to do it. I want to accomplish everything I visualize in the best way that I can. There will be struggle and road blocks on the way, but if I hold a positive vision of my self image then I will be likely to become that vision. file:///Users/alexlloyd/Downloads/ET%20Ch%202.pdf
